John Stevens Delivers Speech to 55 Students
PHILADELPHIA, PA, June 29, 2007 – Flyers Head Coach John Stevens delivered a motivational speech to inner-city participants at the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation (ESYHF) camp at Flyers Skatezone Northeast today. 55 students listened intently as Coach Stevens discussed the importance of effort and preparation to success in hockey and in life.
Following the speech, Coach Stevens answered students’ questions on topics such as his professional playing experience, positioning, and how he was inspired to play ice hockey as a boy. After posing for pictures with the players, Coach Stevens was kind enough to sign each student’s jersey.
Coach Stevens’ visit capped a weeklong camp in which students from throughout the city of Philadelphia worked hard to improve their ice hockey skills and learned important lessons about nutrition, fitness, and teamwork. The camp, which provides full equipment, ice time, experienced coaching, lunch and snacks to all players at no cost, was the first of three camps hosted by ESYHF this summer.
The next camp, beginning July 30, will also feature two on-ice sessions and one off-ice skill session each day through August 3. In addition, students can expect to enjoy numerous prizes, games & contests, as well as information sessions on nutrition and fitness, and surprise visits from special guests. Daily activities will last from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Those wishing to participate can find more information at www.esyhf.org or contact ESYHF directly at 215-952-5271 or 215-618-0055.
